We're investing in Iowa's brightest minds by offering 2 scholarships worth $1,000 each, to deserving full-time and part-time students who demonstrate academic excellence, financial responsibility and a passion for making a difference.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Collins Community Credit Union will be awarding $2,000 in scholarship funds. The two $1,000 Scholarships will be based on academic merit, community service and financial need. Categories are below:

  1. The Incoming Freshman Scholarship is open to any high school senior who will be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or vocational program in the 2024-2025 academic year.
  2. The Technical/Trade Scholarship is for any student who will be enrolled in an accredited technical or trade program in the 2024-2025 academic year.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants must be a Collins Community Credit Union member, listed as the primary account holder, with an account in good standing, at the time of application, and at the time the funds are provided.
  • Credit Union staff, Board of Directors and their immediate relatives are not eligible to apply for the scholarship program.
  • Previous Collins Community Credit Union scholarship recipients are excluded.
  • Applicants must begin (or plan to begin) studies during the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Applicants must be enrolled (or plan to be enrolled) as a part-time or full-time student at an accredited college in a 2-year, 4-year, or trade/technical program.
  • No purchase necessary.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Submit all application materials by email to scholarships@collinscu.org
  • Attach your resume as a PDF or Word Document.
  • Attach your entry essay as a PDF or Word Document.
  • All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. April 12, 2024.

 

APPLICATION MATERIALS & REQUIREMENTS

1. ESSAY: Describe a specific, ambitious goal you have for making a lasting impact in your field. How will your college education equip you with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to bring this goal to fruition? Outline concrete actions you'll take, both during and after college, to turn this ripple into a wave of change.

Essay Guidelines:

Word count: Approximately 500 words.

Originality: We require original work. Plagiarism will disqualify your application.

Formatting: Typed, Arial font size 12, double-spaced.

 

2. RESUME: Applicants are required to submit a typed, business-style resume. The resume should not exceed two pages in length, and should contain the following information:

  • Applicant’s full name
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • Educational information
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) ACT/SAT scores, if available
  • Honors and awards
  • Extracurricular activities (school and/or community activities)
  • Work experience
  • An objective regarding educational or career goals for the future
  • Applicants are required to disclose if they have any family members currently employed by the credit union or currently sitting on the Board of Directors.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. All applications will be reviewed by an internal panel that may include Collins Community Credit Union Senior Leadership, members of the CCCU Board of Directors, and/or additional Collins CCU team members.
  2. Each panel member will award a maximum of 60 points to the essay and a maximum of 40 points to the resume. Essay scores will be based on originality, clarity, meaningful content, accurate presentation of facts, spelling, neatness, and grammar/punctuation. The resume will be scored on presentation, school and community involvement and potential of the student to be successful in secondary education. Applications will also be scored on adherence to submission requirements.
  3. Results and points will be reviewed by the scholarship program panel to declare the winners. All decisions are final.
  4. All scholarship entries become exclusive property of Collins Community Credit Union and will not be returned to the applicant.

 

AWARD PROCESS & DETAILS

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 30, 2024. 
  • Scholarship funds will be provided by August 1, 2024. Scholarship recipients will receive funding after written verification is received from the college registrar where the student is enrolled. The check will be mailed or sent via ACH to the college directly.
  • Funds can be used for tuition, room and board, and book and educational supply expenses.
