In light of recent news out of the banking sector, I’d like to take a moment to reassure all of our members that your money is safe and secure at Collins Community Credit Union. While the recent media coverage has not been credit union failures, I understand it still may have caused some questions or concerns with our members.
Here are a few important things we want you to know:
- First things first, your money is safe here. Collins Community Credit Union deposits are federally insured through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency. The NCUA is backed by full faith and credit of the U.S. government. Each account holder’s funds are insured up to $250,000, and individual retirement accounts are separately insured up to $250,000.
- The recent media coverage is featuring niche banks that served the tech industry, particularly start-ups, venture capital firms, and cryptocurrency companies. Their financial services business and strategy is completely different from ours, and we do not have a concentration of loans or deposits in any one industry or sector. Our members are local individuals, families, and businesses.
- According to the NCUA, no one has ever lost a single penny of insured share deposits within the credit union system. We understand you may be tempted to withdraw funds with the idea of protecting your money, but rest assured that your deposits are protected here (perhaps more so than your wallet, car, or at home). - We are regularly examined and audited to ensure proper operational management and the safety and soundness of our organization. In addition, regular audits reviewing regulatory compliance and internal controls are conducted throughout the year by qualified auditors, with summary reports provided to management and the Audit Committee for review and action.
