People donate blood every day, but they may not realize the impact that a blood donation has on a person’s life (and their families). Blood banks are only able to save blood donations for a few days so it is important for people to donate blood everyday to keep up with the demand of needy individuals. I personally have never given blood before, but there is a first time for everything! That is why I decided to participate with my co-workers and hopefully many others by giving blood at CCCU’s upcoming blood drive.

Racheal, who works along with me at our North Liberty branch, feels a close connection when she donates blood. She donates regularly, and believes she is able to benefit a stranger’s life in their time of need, especially during the summer months because this is when blood banks suffer the most shortages. Melissa, our NL branch manager, donates every time she can and always feels pride when she thinks about how many people her blood donation will help.  That is why she also promotes the process to others.  Donating blood can have a very personal impact to your life. Think about it - if you or someone in your family needed blood-you’d want that supply available without delay.

Collins Community Credit Union, my coworkers and I will be helping to support the UI DeGowin Blood Center by sponsoring a blood drive and donating blood on Friday, July 20th.  This will help to save or improve the lives of several people in need - locally.  People helping people-it goes hand in hand with the credit union and carries over into community events such as this.  Please join us on July 20th between 10am and 2pm at our North Liberty branch.  It only takes about an hour from the time you get registered, cleared for donation and complete the donation process.  A complimentary lunch will be provided to donors and we promise you’ll have fun at the same time.  Call us at 626-3123 or email Melissa at mtjebkes@collinscu.org to reserve a time. Walk-ins are also very welcome.  Hope to see you there!
