Many members inquire how loan payments are allocated on their Collins Community Credit Union loans.

If the loan is not a dwelling based loan (example: auto loan) the payment is first applied to any interest that is owed, to any late fees if fees are owed and then to principal.

If the loan is dwelling based (example: home equity loan) the payment is first applied to interest, principal and then late fees if there are any.

Contracts require a payment every month on the due date. There is a ten day grace period that is given on most of our loans with the exception of a few commercial loans. Once the grace period has expired, then a late fee is charged.

If you will be away for an extended period of time, perhaps you live in the south during the winter, then to fulfill this monthly loan payment requirement you can set up a transfer to pull from your checking or savings account.
