Chip Cards

CHIP CARDS ARE BECOMING THE GLOBAL STANDARD FOR CARD PAYMENTS

Chip cards reduce the number of fraud incidents, but do not completely eliminate fraud. Chip cards safeguard physical transactions at a merchant that has a chip-enabled terminal. At this time, the Chip Card does not protect you from transactions made online or over the phone. You must continue to practice safe methods of using your credit cards and debit cards, such as monitoring your statements for accuracy.

We are consistently looking for ways to protect our members from fraud. The conversion to credit card chip cards and debit cards is one of them. Should you have any questions, we are here to help!

CHIP CARD CREDIT CARDS AND DEBIT CARDS

Chip card credit cards and debit cards are issued to all new cardholders and will be reissued to existing cardholders based on their reissue date. For example, if a card expires in December 2015, the cardholder will receive a chip card in December. If the card expires in March 2017, the cardholder will receive a chip card in March 2017. We highly recommend that anyone who travels frequently, or plans to travel internationally, request to convert their card early. To request a chip card, call 800-475-1150.

HOW TO USE YOUR CHIP CARD

Chip-enabled terminals may look slightly different and processing your transaction will be slightly different when using your Chip Card at a chip-enabled terminal.

  1. Instead of swiping your card, you will insert it into a slot in the chip-enabled terminal.
  2. You will need to keep your card in the terminal until your transaction is complete.
  3. Follow the prompts on the screen.
  4. It may prompt you to sign.
  5. Once your transaction is complete, the merchant will give you a receipt.
  6. Remember to remove your card before leaving.

The process will be very similar at the ATM.
